SAFA President, Danny Jordaan was taken into custody on allegations of committing fraud and theft totaling to R1.3 million.
Jordan and two others, The Chief Financial Officer of SAFA Gronie Hluyo and businessman Trevor Neethling were scheduled to attend a court hearing at the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Palm Ridge in Johannesburg.
They are facing allegations of misusing SAFA's funds for their personal gain between 2014 and 2018.
There are claims that Jordaan allegedly utilized SAFAs assets for his own benefit by hiring a security firm for personal protection and involving a public relations agency without proper board approval.
The money in question was apparently utilized to handle Jordaan's reputation following accusations of sexual misconduct by former ANC MP Jennifer Ferguson in 2017.
Before Jordaan was arrested he tried to get a court order from the Johannesburg High Court to stop his arrest and prosecution.
It seems like these attempts did not stop the arrest from happening.
The situation is continuing to develop as we wait for additional information to come out during the proceedings in court.
The request for Jordaan to resign from his position at SAFA while the charges are being dealt with has been echoed by groups within society.
