Chidimma Adetshina originally joined Miss South Africa Beauty Pageant. Later decided to withdraw because of a controversy surrounding her mother's identity fraud allegations, which prompted her to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, where she emerged as the winner.
The South African Department of Home Affairs has officially stated that Chidimma and her mother's travel documents have been revoked.
Progressive Forces for South Africa recently started a petition to block Chidimma from participating in the Miss Universe pageant.
The Melisizwe Mandela Foundation has also demanded that Miss Universe Nigeria contestant, Chidimma Adetshina be disqualified from the Miss Universe pageant which is set to occur in Mexico this month.
The reasons behind these inquiries mainly arise from the situation in South Africa where doubts were raised about her qualification for citizenship because of her mother's nationality concerns this eventually resulted in the cancellation of both her and her mother's South African identification papers.
There hasn't been any word on whether the Miss Universe organization has taken action on the disqualification requests mentioned earlier in the latest update.
However there are proceedings in South Africa regarding her family's citizenship status that could potentially impact her participation in global pageants.
