Gayton Mckenzie: from next week the ball is rolling with VAR

Minister of the Department of Sports Arts and culture, Gayton Mckenzie spoke to SABC Sports today regarding implementation of Visual Assistance Referee popularly known as VAR.

Here is what Gayton Mckenzie told SABC Sports regarding implementation of VAR in South African Football.

"We are now ready to roll with VAR, we are going to put a deposit down at the Department and then we will need the sponsors to pay for it but we can't wait, from next week the ball is rolling with VAR.

Gayton Mckenzie says that president of SAFA is right when he says VAR is very expensive, so they can't let SAFA carry it alone because Football makes us all happy.

Gayton Mckenzie says That Government of National Unity together with Sponsors and people who love football will make this happen, but next week South African Football will be rolling with VAR as from his department they'll make a deposit next week.

Question that might be asked is how much does it cost for VAR to be implemented in South Africa, well Gayton Mckenzie gave the figures, first it will cost R80 million once off, then R70 000 per match.

Many fans have long waited for Visual Assistance Referee in South Africa due to many mistakes committed by the Match officials.
