The President's office contested Schreiber's declaration by stating that official approval from the president had not yet been given which caused a dispute between the DA and ANC in the national unity government.
The Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC) Fikile Mbalula emphasized that President Cyril Ramaphosa will not approve the visa free access agreement with Ukraine as stated by Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber.
During his statement, Mbalula stated that Ramaphosa will not yield to the DA's proposal and indicated ANC's disagreement with the deal due to South Africa's foreign policy positions with Russia.
If this deal is put into action as planned completely it would spark debates with some expressing concerns about how Ukraine will align with South Africa's alignment principles or it's ties with nations such as Russia, which President Cyril Ramaphosa consider align.
This matter has stirred up discussions in South Africa specially regarding the country's foreign policy stance and the consequences of agreements made without agreement from the government.
The future of the visa free access agreement between Ukraine and South Africa appears unclear as Ramaphosa has refused to sign it.
